Graham Hill retired from the 1968 French grand prix on lap 14. He was stranded and gave teammate Jo Siffert his helmet because Jo didn't have a visor on his normal helmet. Another Jo, Jo Schlesser died on the 2nd lap after he crashed which ignited the car. Also look at the safety in those days, people right beside the track, no guard rails to stop cars from crashing and landing into the forest near it.
