“Tomorrow Is a Long Time” Bob Dylan - (live) 1963. My son Kanoa and I have been bonding over the soundtrack to Walking Dead. He loves the relentless, mindless evil and I love the kind of music that goes with it. He likes the music too and tonight he showed me the scene that went with this one. It’s weird how much he knows about it! In the scene this building blows up and there’s flames everywhere and Dylan is singing away and he says, “Yeah, that’s not actually a hospital. It’s a performing arts center in Atlanta.” Anyway, this is also one of my favorite Dylan songs. Just a beautiful melancholy expression of romantic longing. It has the odd distinction too of having been officially debuted on a greatest hits collection (vol.2 1971). That’s because it was originally recorded live in ‘63 and was bootlegged so heavily and ended up being so popular that they figured they could count it as hit. Actually it was a hit for a bunch of other artists like Joan Baez and Odetta, even The Kingston Trio, but the big one was a rendition by Elvis that Dylan called his “most treasured” cover of all. I was personally introduced to it by Rod Stewart and that’s a sweet version too. And really, it’s such a great song I imagine anyone who wanted could make it work. Just one more reason why Dylan is the man! #toomuchinformation #bobdylan #tomorrowssuchalongtime #greatesthitsvol2 #folkmusic #soundtracks #walkingdead #zombieapocalypse #fathersontime #oldrecords #recordoftheday #recordcover #recordcollection #recordcollector #recordaddict #vinyl #vinylcollection #vinylcommunity #vinylcollector #vinyllife #vinyllove #vinyllovers #vinyljunkies #the60s #the70s #1963 #1971
