I struggle with this verse. Ever since recommitting my life to Christ, I feel this tension between what I desire and what I ought to do. It’s so hard to tear yourself away from the things seen to trust that there’s something better waiting that remains unseen. Life is one big episode of Let’s Make a Deal. Give up what you have now for what’s behind the curtain. That’s where faith comes in. If you can allow yourself to believe that what lies ahead is going to be worth it, denying yourself and taking up your cross seems more palatable. Sacrificing for others is a form of denying yourself. Taking what’s in your hand and giving it to someone else when you yourself want/need it. That’s what I’m asking you to do.
