Macher jhol!
What’s a Bengali household without macher jhol! But ours had none for the first six years! Thanks to our landlord - who mandated no non-veg to be cooked or brought in! The lady of the house (me), being a vegetarian, had no qualms about it but was instead quite relaxed-no bringing no cooking! But the man did yearn for it, so dinners out would mostly be non veg for him!
We shifted the house recently and it changed the rules of the game! Fish is becoming a staple but the lady of the house is still relaxed and even happier as the man of the house has taken it upon himself to cook non-bheg 😛! It’s good to see him turning into a chef!
