This one hurts to type. But I’ve found that writing about our experiences is ultimately therapeutic. Yesterday, two little boys on our street were playing hide and seek. One of them hid behind a boulder, next to mailboxes where the hanging flower pot Parker is drawn to hangs. I told the boy, watch your head! He likes to swing that. I thought it was kind of cute because he responded with “I know.” A moment later the other one says, “he can play hide and seek with us too!” I didn’t know how to respond. I said “he probably wouldn’t understand how to, but thank you for inviting him to join.” He said, well he’s counting right now! I then realized there’s not much to the game to understand so they must be confused. That’s when I told them my son has autism. “He has what?” I felt my stomach sink. I explained Autism is something some people are born with, and it makes playing and communicating difficult. To keep it simple, I told them he doesn’t speak. “Ever??” Ever kid. <br />#whatsgoingoninthatbeautifulmind
