BRASSICA season is underway 😍😍😍
.
Broccoli 🥦 takes a long time to form but is so much fun to grow and is super healthy for the human body
.
It can however be occasionally tricky to grow successfully in Melbourne’s up and down climate so we’ve planted two rounds of broccoli - one in March and one in mid-April
.
We find the mid-April crop performs best for us, but the March crop will also do well if it survives early autumn heat waves and caterpillars
.
The plant in the photo is a ROMANESCO that was planted in March and it’s done pretty well to absorb and survive Melbourne’s hot early autumn conditions
.
We do find the ROMANESCO to be a little more heat-tolerant than its other close relatives having flopped multiple times in the March and early April warm days but seems to be pulling through, however it’s still not out of danger yet regarding potential bolting or ending up with small or no flower heads at all
.
