It's been a busy couple of months! So busy that I have hardly posted at all! Lately I've been capturing a lot of editorial portraits, so I am on the road traveling around VA most days. It is a fun challenge to arrive at a new location (that can't really be scouted ahead of time) and problem solve my way into an interesting shot! The problem usually is that the location we have to shoot in is an office or conference room. So how do you make that interesting? There's actually more ways than you think to use office furniture, windows and seemingly not so interesting backgrounds! It also comes down to light shaping. The use of studio lights can always help to create interest in photos.

In this case, when I photographed Paul Hurlocker, CEO of Notch for Virginia Business Magazine, we had all of Capital One's West Creek location to choose from, which has some pretty interesting spots! This was actually taken in the outdoor cafe only using natural, diffused light.
