As rivers move downstream, they pick up more and more trash, acting as a conveyer belt. In the Indian scenario, more than 70% of this waste is plastic, almost half of which lies uncollected in the oceans. The water bottle you 'casually' purchased two days ago, because your privilege allows you to, is likely to land up in the ocean. Once in the ocean, it is difficult - if not impossible - to retrieve plastic waste. While recycling and reusing are two key solutions to the plastic problem that we have brought upon ourselves, it is important to realise the importance of refusing, and designing healthier alternatives of consumption. The earth needs us, and it needs us now...
