Vietnam has a fantastic coffee culture. Seriously. I did not have a single bad cup of coffee my whole stay there. Whether it be a small, roadside eatery, a bustling cafeteria, fine dining, or one of the many great cafés, I enjoyed every cup I had. That shouldn’t be a surprise, given that Vietnam is the world’s second largest coffee producer behind Brazil.⠀
⠀⠀
While Vietnamese iced coffee with condensed milk was already something I was very familiar with, coconut coffee and egg coffee have both become new favorites.⠀
⠀⠀
Egg coffee adds egg yolk and condensed milk, created when milk was scarce in Vietnam in the 1940s. I had the opportunity to try it at Giảng Café, started by the originator of the recipe, Mr. Nguyen Van Giang. Their recipe was everything I could hope and more. I tried as many different cafés that served egg coffee as I could find, but my favorite was at Cafe Phố Cổ in Ha Noi. This is entirely a matter of taste, so I invite you to try and discover the one(s) that you enjoy.⠀
⠀⠀
In a country where fantastic coffee is to be found on every corner, I also want to mention The Note Coffee. Yes, it is very popular with tourists, but there’s a reason. From the very friendly and helpful staff, to the words of love and encouragement left by other visitors, The Note Coffee is a nice place to slow things down a bit and catch your breath.⠀
