Stage 7 Analysis <br />A wild and very nervous ending to the longest stage in this edition saw Dylan Groewnewegen (Team Jumbo-Visma) pull his first victory of this year’s Tour off, showing he isn’t feeling any repercussions from his earlier crash. The ending was very hectic, and very fast, as we saw many teams come to the front too early in a bid to be in good positions. However, one team that got it perfect was Deceuninck Quickstep, putting Elia Viviani in a perfect position to finish off the stage, and take his second victory. But, Elia Viviani faded in the final meters, and only finished 6th. Another big name, Peter Sagan, continues his path of destruction, and continues to build his horde of points for the green jersey competition, with a 3rd place finish in today’s stage. However, a name that can’t be looked past is that of Caleb Ewan. Ewan had a perfectly timed sprint, and came up on Groenewegen in the final 50 meters, but got beaten by Groenewegen’s perfectly timed bike throw, beating him by only a couple of millimeters. But we can’t take anything away from Dylan Groenewegen, who had his team work for him all day, and finish off the sprint. Even with the victory, Groenewegen was left a little far back right before the sprint initiated, but was able to power his way through to pull off a fantastic first victory in TDF ‘19. At the end of the day, Ciccone keeps his yellow jersey, and Sagan extends his green jersey lead, while white and polka stays the same.
