The ‘Forever Young’ series from Insanity Fair is a collection of four pieces; Lips, Heart, Pirate, and Dollar. They see eternally youthful images of contemporary faces combined with the ultimate symbol of death, the skull. The observation is a flickering of two sensibilities, and a paradoxical stance of opposing realities; preservation versus the ultimate and only certainty in life, namely death. The modern era inundates us with endless ideals of physical perfection and a material life. This collection attempts to portray this very notion.

Created using hyperreal colours, the semi-morbid and macabre pieces are presented as immaculate light-boxes for the show Insanity Fair, which in part, hopes to address the idea of vanity in the 21st century. In a day and age when youthfulness is the key goal for many, and falsely promises people endless and total satisfaction, the ‘Forever Young’ series shines light on an obsession which often leads to negative psychological issues.

As Julie Christie once pointed out, amidst an obsession with youth and beauty, what is missing is an equal obsession with respect for ‘older people’, and the wisdom, knowledge and courage that comes with it.
