A couple months ago I asked what everyone was reading. At the time I was reading Why We Sleep. So I want to know… What’s in your hands now?!?<br /><br />Right now I’m reading Why Zebras Don’t Get Ulcers by Robert Sapolsky. This book has been on my shelf for literally YEARS and I’m finally able to read it!<br /><br />It’s all about how stress, both quick and long term, affects our physiology and overall health. As a heads up, it is DENSE, and I need extra time to re-read sections to make sure I understand the concepts.<br /><br />What I love about this book is that it talks about how stress can be helpful in the short term. Short term stress teaches our body and the autonomic nervous system how to adapt which builds resiliency in the long run.<br /><br />But<br /><br />Chronic, long term stress is when our body and autonomic nervous just can’t keep up. This is where unfortunately, the majority of us live our life, which can increase risk of chronic disease such as depression, diabetes, and heart disease.
