#wildbiome Day 12: well this day started with a wrapping surprise! 4am I was woken by the fire alarms going in the house - I got up, tentatively explored the house to see if there was fire, or what might have set them all off - thankfully no fire, but with the alarms ringing around me the adrenalin and anxiety still pumped through my body. I had no idea how to turn them off - desperately searching for instructions in drawers, googling them - all with these sirens drilling through my head. Eventually worked it out after 45 mins, back to bed only to be woken again half an hour later - had to hack the house again. Needless to say, I didn't really get back to sleep!
So the rest of the day was a hard slog - late breakfast of a lovely @achrayfarm duck egg (my last one 😕) and spring greens: a glass of cleaver and nettle juice, a cup of dandelion coffee and I was almost ready to face the day.
I had food prep to do today - more crackers, an attempt to make a cake, processing all those St George's, - but no major time-bound commitment which was fortunate.
I even treated myself to an afternoon swim in the Loch - my temperature duck wildly excited about the temperature in a shallow bit of the Loch, and my alarm frazzled brain and body restored by sunshine, cool water, and the always resplendent Loch.
Lunch was a wild, plant based 'haloumi' salad. You cannot really see in the photo, but I fried small slices of garlic curd until crispy-ish (they went black as soon as they hit the hot tallow - a little disconcerting!), and some St George mushrooms then tossed them into a garden salad and sprinkled some sea buckthorn juice over them, mainly to quell the fatty taste of the tallow.
Supper was late again - but delicious: green fish balls! Just white fish and wild garlic, whizzed together in the Food processor, and then shaped into small balls. I may not like much the taste or smell of the tallow, but it is amazing to fry in! Served up with steamed greens, and a little more sea buckthorn juice!
