Chona’s Marani is a small family winery located in Kakheti, Georgia focused on traditional winemaking in qvevri.
Wild fermentation of the pressed grapes takes place in qvevri. After primary and secondary fermentation complete, the qvevri are sealed with the wine, skins, and all, until spring. Over time, the grape skins, seeds, etc fall to the bottom of the qvevri, naturally separating from the wine.
During our visit, we were able to taste the wines, meet Chona’s parents, and your his new cellar. The wines were impressive, and his family was wonderful!
They also had puppies, but I didn’t take any photos 🤷♂️.
