Colin Wilson
A apparent fan of the repeating-digits, the 7th overall pick of the 2008 draft wore number 33 playing for Nashville for the first eight years of his career. But when Wilson was traded to the Avalanche in 2017, keeping the same number was not an option, since 33 was already hanging in the rafters. Wilson switched to no. 22, finishing his career with 130 games over three seasons in Denver.
It seems the personal story behind Wilson’s sweater number was never publicly told, or perhaps it has been lost to the internet’s sands of time.
However, with his playing days behind him, Wilson has become an advocate for mental health by sharing the far more important story of his personal struggles with OCD. By being open with his diagnosis and his struggles with invasive and repetitive thoughts, he has helped to destigmatize talking about mental health issues that affect many athletes and men.
