"I'm Duncan and I'm a picker up in the Angus Glens, involved on shoots for Grouse, Partridge, and Pheasant throughout the season. My trained dogs retrieve game gently, contributing to its safe entry into the food chain. Our role is to efficiently retrieve and dispatch wounded birds, ensuring humane practices. We also conduct sweeps after each drive to avoid missing any shot birds. The presence of an effective team of pickers-up is crucial for ensuring a day of shooting is enjoyable and successful.
With 3 or more pickers-up on every shoot day, we secure a steady income over the 6-month period. Sporting Estates offer job opportunities to a diverse range of individuals, not limited to Gamekeepers."
