WA Farmers Livestock Council and Australian Exporters are trying to save the dying live sheep trade, which is currently in limbo due to the Federal Government’s phaseout policy.
We believe that live export is cruel and unnecessary for our farmers, our economy, and our global food security. We are committed to exposing the low standards of animal welfare and supply chain assurance in their industry.
We are also appalled to hear that new markets are emerging for their sheep and cattle in Morocco, Iraq and Iran. These countries have a history of poor animal welfare practices and we are working hard to stop the health protocols and ESCAS requirements that would enable this trade.

We are deeply disappointed by the lack of information and action from the Prime Minister, who has not given any further details on the phaseout panel report or the timeline for winding the trade down. This is unacceptable and irresponsible. We demand transparency and urgency from the government.
