Have you sold, lost, or gotten rid of something you later regret? If you’re a collector, perhaps you sold something you later realize was a mistake. There might be a thousand reasons why you wish you still had a particular object… a beloved childhood toy is lost. A treasure disappears during a move. Something is sold and later the true value (monetary or sentimental) is discovered. But as most collectors know, you sometimes have to thin the collections.Downsizing, lack of storage, change in taste, duplication, need for the money that selling brings… we just can’t keep everything. This is one of those times. Back in 2018, just weeks before I started this account and began my journey of sharing my stories and designs, I sold one of my 1990 Wrestling Buddies prototypes and concept drawing. There was someone who had tracked me down years earlier, because of comments I had left on some collectors forums. Every few months he would email me and ask me if I was willing to sell something. He finally offered me enough money that I figured, why not? So I photographed my battered and faded Big Boss Man Wrestling Buddy prototype, and my color rendering, complete with Pantone chips taped on, and shipped it off to the buyer. It wasn’t until sometime later that I came to regret it. But I’ve also learned that regret isn’t very productive. I’m sure that collector is so happy to have something unique in his wrestling toy collection. In the years since, I’ve been happy NOT to see those things on auction websites for much more than I sold them for! At least I have my photos and memories. And it’s just “stuff”! I have way too much crammed in my studio anyway. So, after nearly 6 years, I’m finally coming to terms with the loss. Compared to “true” loss, it’s just a blip. I have so much to be thankful for! #wwfwrestlingbuddy #tonkadesigner #wrestlingbuddiesdesigner #bigbossman #bigbossmantoy #toyprototype #conceptrendering
