And I thought my Miata was impractical… This is a pretty rare car in the U.S., a Caterham Seven 420S. I think this is based on the Lotus Seven of the 70s. The concept is modernized, but still obviously follows Colin Chapman’s car building philosophy “Simplify, then add lightness.” The 420S designation means the following: 2.0 Ford Duratec, I think similar to the last gen Focus power plant we got here. In 420 spec it generates 210hp, with a weight of just 560kg/1234lbs giving it a power to weight ratio of 375hp per tonne (according to website). Thus equipped it will do 0-60 in a very impressive 3.8s. The 420 is the highest naturally aspirated spec, with the 2.0L available in lower tune as the 360 with 180hp, and as the 620 equipped with a supercharger making 310hp. This car is also differentiated as having the S trim, which is the base pack, as opposed to the more racy R trim. Differences include suspension options, the option of an LSD and other sporting tweaks. Hard to imagine that this is the comfortable spec for the car. I believe you can buy it as a kit, have it assembled or do it yourself and then it’s registered as a Ford of whatever year you assemble it. I would love to experience this thing, I’m sure it’s ultra connected. I don’t know if I would want to own one unless I lived very near to the track.
.
.
.
#caterham #caterham7 #caterham7420 #lotus #lotusseven #colinchapman #simplifythenaddlightness #kitcar #ford #fordengine #fordduratec #impractical #wallawalla #wallawallacarspotting #carspotting #eclecticcars
