Men of today sell their soul for such a small quantity.
What is a seemingly trivial compromise here and a rationalization of a minor evil there… they don’t realize what they’ve done until it’s too late.
It seems to me that things have certainly fallen a long way since the great days of Faust and Mephistopheles. Then when a man sold his soul he could gain all the knowledge of the universe. He could achieve all the ambitions of his mind and gain all the pleasures of the flesh for the price of his soul.
Now they do it only for a few record royalties, a bit of notoriety, a fifteen minute guest spot, a trendy car, and a trinket to hang on their living room wall.
When we sell our soul we always get more evil than we could have ever bargained for….
Conversely, when a man earns his success he’s much less likely to take what he has for granted. This is never the case when he takes something for nothing.
If you stay true to your principles, you have confidence, conviction, purpose, and values - in other words, you have a future and no one can lay claim to what’s rightfully yours.
After all, what good is a throne, a sword and an empire if you have nothing?
