Rainwater harvesting has long been a part of Tudor Place’s history. The kitchen, which was built circa 1876, included a cistern below the floor to capture rainwater. While the historic cistern has not been in use for quite some time, two 16,000 gallon cisterns in were installed in the South Lawn in 2019. By capturing rainwater and using it in the landscape, we’re reducing our stormwater runoff and the demand for potable water. By making both visible and invisible adaptations to the landscape, Tudor Place can address modern challenges while preserving historic authenticity.<br /><br />#SustainabilitySunday
