1966 SHELBY GT350 (SFM6S634) BEING AUCTIONED BY MECUM AT INDY!!
1966 was the second year of GT350 production. Model year changes included replacing the side exhaust with rear exhaust. A plexiglass rear quarter window was fitted. Functional brake cooling scoops were added to the rear fenders. The back seat was left in the car and a new dash and tach were featured. The Detroit Locker rear end was eliminated.
The GT350 seen here, SFM6S634, is an early car with over ride traction bars. It is finished in Guardsman Blue paint with White Le Mans stripes. It is a restored car and presents well. It retains the original 289 ci, 306 hp HiPo engine mated to its original T-10 aluminum 4-speed transmission. It wears Shelby 10-spoke Alloy wheels with Goodyear blue dot tires. It has an AM radio, Koni shocks, heater, and Ray Brown seat belts. It includes copies of the Shelby American factory order sheets and a letter from the SAAC (Shelby Club) verifying the numbers on the car.
This GT350 is being offered by Mecum at their upcoming Indianapolis sale. Shelby Mustangs continue to gain in popularity and the ’66 cars are commanding very good prices. We would expect this GT350 to reach $225,000 when the hammer drops.
