WISDOM THE KINGDOM

Overcoming Fear

There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.
1 John 4:18;

Recognising and defining fear, as well as its source, is the first step towards conquering it. Fear is an emotional response to uncertainty in unknown or anticipated things, as well as insecurity and guilt. "Is my job on the line? Will my expenses be covered by the money I have? Will I become ill and die, or will one of my loved ones die? Will my partner desert me? The adversary of our souls, Satan, is the source of these ideas. Though there is no reason to expect failure or loss, all of these questions are possible. Satan's ploy is to instill in us the belief that we will be dealt an excessive number of "bad things" and, more crucially, that we will be incapable of handling them. He wants us to believe that we will be overcome by these things.

Realising and accepting that fear is a product of Satan's evil will and that faith is the best way to combat it is the second step in conquering fear. "Remain vigilant and in control; the devil, your adversary, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour (1 Peter 5:8-9). Faith is recognising that Yahweh is our Father, that He is all-knowing and all-powerful, and that He loves us. No circumstance, real or imagined, is too great for Yahweh to assist us with. Nothing is impossible for Yahweh because of His power and love. "You have received the spirit of sonship, and it is through Him that we cry out Abba Father, not a spirit that makes you a slave to fear once more," (Romans 8; 15)".

Stay blessed.
