It wasn't easy convincing @kevinbacon to return to Payson High School. But students and faculty pulled it off.
The Saturday visit was about more than the 40th anniversary of 1984’s “Footloose”, or the fact that the school — where parts of the movie were filmed — will soon be torn down. It was also about paying it forward with a project for @sixdegreesofkb, Bacon’s foundation.
Students, Paysonites and Bacon himself lined tables on the football field and assembled 5,000 resource kits for Utahns in need. The kits included hygiene items, books, a journal, writing utensils, shelf-stable food and snacks and three months of complementary therapy through online service BetterHelp.
@thestacyhuston, executive director of SixDegrees, said each kit also included a note of encouragement so the recipient knows someone is “cheering them on and is wanting them to know that it's going to be OK.”
Payson Mayor Bill Wright hopes the community will continue working together as it grows.
“You have a dream, make that dream come to fruition,” Wright said. “And you only do that by working together.”
