La Fiera di Santa Zita è l’evento primaverile più importante per la città di Lucca.
Per celebrare Santa Zita, patrona di Lucca, la città allestisce tradizionalmente una mostra mercato in Piazza Anfiteatro nel periodo dell'anniversario della sua morte, il 27 aprile del 1272.
I fiori rappresentano un episodio particolarmente importante della vita di Santa Zita.
Si narra infatti che la ragazza, domestica presso la ricca famiglia lucchese dei Fatinelli, fu sorpresa dal padrone mentre portava nascosti nel grembiule alimenti ai poveri.
Di fronte alle sue insistenti richieste, la ragazza mentì dicendo di portare nel suo grembiule fiori e piante e mostrando il contenuto apparvero veramente fiori e piante.
