On the Piazza Unita d’Italia in Trieste 🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹
*
Not for nothing was this square called „Piazza Grande“ in Habsburg times! With its 16,000m², it is the largest square in Europe that is open to the sea. It therefore has a „window to the sea“. 😀 Whatever the weather and whatever the time of day, the square is always very impressive! It invites you to linger and enjoy the dolce vita and the neoclassical and baroque architecture.
*
Palazzo del Governo (1905) - pic 1+2
This building was the last to be finalized on the Piazza Grande. You will immediately recognize it by its oriental ornamentation, two-storey loggia and Art Nouveau elements.
*
Palazzo del Lloyd Triestino (1884) - pic 3
Designed by Heinrich Ferstel, the Viennese star architect, this building was originally called Palazzo Lloyd Austriaco. In 1919, Lloyd was Italianized and renamed Lloyd Triestino (today Italia Marittima). Today, you will find the regional government of Friuli Venezia Giulia in this Renaissance building.
*
Municipio/Rataus - in the center of the square - pic 4
The Municipio, built in 1875, with a mix of classical, baroque and renaissance styles. In the center is the bell tower with two boys (Michele e Giaccomo) who chime every hour on the hour.
*
#igerstrieste #instatrieste #igtrieste #volgotrieste #ig_trieste #trieste #reeloftheday #discovertrieste #triesteitalia #trieste_photogroup #nofilter #ig_europe #ig_italy #ig_fotoitaliane #travel_drops #guruhdr #through_the_travel_lens #alluring_europe #europe_moments #europegallery #perfect_europe #incredible_europe #henni_on_tour #postcardfromitaly #italiastyle20 #amazingshots_italy
*
