#Funeral Fact Friday : Who owns the body?
Technically, nobody (that’s not a pun).
Bodies aren’t property, so you can’t own them. All you get is custody and the right to choose/direct what happens to them (cremation, burial, organ donation, etc).
Families end up in court when they can’t agree on disposition. Do yourself a favor and set up legal documents in advance if you think this will be your family. That way you can choose your own adventure, or at least appoint someone who isn’t a jerk.
