An emotion I’ve been getting to know more recently is anger.

I would never call myself an angry person, and I don’t think those closest to me would call me angry either!

But not being angry has its downsides.

I was in therapy last year & I had this huge revelation that I often disguise anger with anxiety.

Anxiety & I go waaaay back, we’re very close. But it dawned on me that a lot of the situations that make me feel anxious are actually ones that should probably make me feel a bit angry.

Now in this instance I’m not talking about the healthy anxiety that often happens, but I’m talking about being triggered and getting anxious.

An example for this would be when someone doesn’t respect my boundaries when I’ve clearly communicated them.

Something I’ve found really helpful when processing and tapping into that anger is going to the gym! Wow, how have I not utilised this for so many years?! There is definitely no better place to take out some frustration than on pieces of heavy machinery 😂

I am so used to moving in quite a fluid way through yoga and sometimes even dance, that this gym thing is all pretty new to me.

I actually think there is a time and a place for both. Yoga is perfect for anxiety because it helps soothe the nervous system… whereas going to the gym in a heightened state might actually enhance it.

It’s never that we shouldn’t feel our feelings and avoid them by using exercise as a tool, but rather use the body as a way of expressing and releasing some of the energy behind them in a healthy way.

How do you move through your emotions? I’d love to know 🩷
