The reddest bird in all of North America, here enjoying the peak of spring in the last forest of Brooklyn. Last year I finally saw my first Summer Tanager, a young drake finally molting into his red plumage. Yet I wanted to see how red fully adult males of this species can be. This time I finally saw it after many missed opportunities and poor timing. What a handsome and gorgeous bird, just in time for my birthday weekend too. Cardinalid tanagers are the best.
