It looks like an ancient text but these writings are written by the prophets of our day. Our time. There is an urgency to their art. <br /><br />Whilst walking through the heart of Europe I understand that the forests are not well. Lack of rain has made these impressive stands of mainly beech- where I was- susceptible to fire and not only that but diseases that can really damage a tree already suffering from drought. A honey fungus and other fungi and also wood boring beetles. I hope I’ve got it wrong and they can recover. I have never seen such an endless sea of beautiful beech trees. <br /><br />This piece is relating to a pine tree in the mainly beech forests around the spa town of Karlovy Vary.<br /><br />A terrible, beautiful mystery written into the sun-bleached skin of fallen pine. This silvery spine, once rich with the fresh turpentine tang of fat-wood, now lies brittle. Broken. Once grand, crowned in the splendour of needle and cone, the flame now burns cold in the generosity of death. The silent mining of wood boring beetles in the drought-weakened flesh close this circle of life. They demand a selfless act of the forest. This is the final hour. How many must succumb? Pine, beech, oak. The mighty are falling. The rains fail. The balance shifts. We see the crowns leafing, but ailing, and the truth is in the finery of the hieroglyphs.
