This was a research paper coming out of La Trobe in Melbourne, looking at particularly South Asian experiences of raising an autistic child in Australia.

I love that we're doing research in understanding experiences, because so many of us feel like there are supports in place, without seeing who is still not yet able to access the supports.

Who doesn't feel safe to ask.

Who doesn't feel safe to come.

Who doesn't feel safe, because sometimes the world has made them feel like they can't or shouldn't.

Still, participants felt rooted in positive hope for the future and invested in their children. Some reported doing hour long trips to therapy and back. They felt therapy was worth it, once they found professionals who they could trust, to be open and collaborative with and included them in the therapy process.

I guess this paper was a good wake up call for me. There are members who still feel alone, like they have to do it all by themselves, who aren't yet connected.

Remember that feeling?

These experiences matter too, and in our advocacy, we bring these voices together with us, rather than leaving them behind.
