See my stories today for final parts of making this pink toile as a copy of the green original.
The original fell apart at the arm seams when I washed it and it's made of muslin whereas the pink is a viscose so it has a little less give.
My neighbour is a pattern cutter by trade and showed me how to make a pattern from the dress. I took the pieces to the fabric shop and played around with cutting layouts. It's 2.5m of 150cm wide fabric so the pink cost me about £13 to make.
I started by sewing the pockets onto the main front pieces and then joined the shoulder seams. As I hadn't made a pattern piece for a facing, I used bias binding to help to hem the neckline. Next I attached the curved pieces to front and back and then put the sleeves in flat.
I then sewed around the whole garment and did a 1cm folded hem on the bottom and sleeves. I think I will deepen the skirt hem next time round. I'm quite pleased with the bias binding finish on the neck so I may use a wider bias tape to get a good weight to the bottom of the dress.
Going to give it a first try now it's finished, in my stories. I will wait for proper light before I try to get a decent photo 📸
