More sketchbook study stuff. No drawing.
Underpainting with ultramarine blue. About 90 mins while listening to snooker on tv.
Don’t usually underpaint like this but thought I’d give it a shot. Don’t worry too much about accuracy at this stage.
Next morning another 90 minutes perhaps? Adding colour to water light blue mixed with orange and various amount of white and black. The stone is similar but also same mix with touches of red for seaweed.
Adding white to body of bird. Next blue blacks sometimes mixed with white. Then orange brown and almost black.
Thoughts. Water looks too overworked or busy giving the appearance it’s solid. Maybe a glaze will help.
This technique does mean you does mean the outline is less noticeable. Underpainting combined with a traditional drawing would probably be easier. Do find A4 scale very restrictive.
Probably more to do.
