Vittorio Spinazzola excavated the House of Pinarius Cerialis in Pompeii in the early twentieth century. This tiny wooden abode is thought to have belonged to a gem cutter, Pinarius Cerialis, because 114 gems, primarily amethyst and agate, were discovered inside.
