A few months ago I bought an old chest from marketplace for £25, with the idea to paint it, Mr H just raised his eyebrows and gave me that look.
.
It was covered in thick dark varnish which Mr H kindly sanded and to our surprise the frame was made of oak, the panels on the other hand were ply and needed to be painted as no amount of sanding could improve them.
