The ritual that Jesus followed in the Last Supper is full of symbolism. Before starting the meal, Christ put water in the basin and anointed the feet of his disciples.
The Last Supper took place in secret because Christ wanted to reveal to his disciples the mystery of the Holy Communion. That is why he said to them: "Take and eat", offering them bread (His body) and wine (His blood). "Take, eat, this is my body... This is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many."
Judas departs, setting into motion his plan of betrayal.
