Someone respectfully asked me to search my motives for making the posts I’ve made about cussing—wondering if I may be doing it for likes and clicks and attention. Honestly, I’m sure my motives are mixed…they always are. I’ve never had a pure motive in my life. No one has. A little bit of me, a little bit of God. Little bit of look at me, little bit of look at God. That’s our lot in this life as broken people. Just acknowledge it and press on. But I am trying to do something with these posts, mixed motives and all. I want to deconstruct and distinguish churchianity from true Christianity.
So much moralistic, behavior modification nonsense has been thrusted on so many people for so damn long, making them think that you have to look, act, talk a certain way if you’re going to be a “good Christian” and “a good witness.” A lot of the comments prove this. Well, it’s all bullshit. The amount of damage this way of thinking has done to people (like the guy in the story) is scandalous... and a primary reason why many people conclude Christianity isn’t for them.
The “laws” we’ve added to Christianity are functionally no different than the “laws” the Pharisees added in their day. Trust me, all of our “good” goals to be clean talking, clean acting, and clean looking people, gets in the way of reaching those who know they’re dirty. It doesn’t help your “witness” to be delusionally and dishonestly clean. It hurts it. Badly.
So, I’m on a campaign for those lost and disenfranchised people who are looking for hope but don’t think Christianity is for them because they don’t fit the mold. It pisses me the hell off! As it should us all.
If you don’t like it or are offended by it, I’m sorry. But you’re not who I’m trying to reach. So, move along…
