The Myth Behind The Movements PART 1.
📖I've been enjoying reading this beautiful book about the myths behind some of the movements we make on our mats.
🧘♀️The warrior poses are linked to everlasting love story of Śiva & Śakti ~ or Satī in this incarnation of her.
💕The story goes that Satī was due to pick a husband & loved no one but Śiva.
👴Son of Lord Brahmā, Dakșa, Satī's father, didn't think Śiva was a suitable partner for his daughter largely because of how he looked.
✋Śiva, with his matted dreadlocks & unwashed body, enjoyed wearing nothing but a loincloth & was typically smothered head to toe in ceremonial ash.
🌹At her betrothal ceremony, Satī had her choice of suitors present ~ all conidered suitable for her. She simply had to bestow a garland of roses to her chosen partner.
👰♀️From her balcony Satī flung her garland into the air & recited a mantra summoning Śiva who appeared in the perfect place to recieve Satī's garland.
👴Dakșa was enraged, humiliated & determined to seek retribution so he held a great party, inviting all the gods & anyone of significance but not Śiva.
👩 Satī was furious & in the middle if the celebration she confronted her father who dismissed her anger smugly.
🔥Satī's anger became unbearable & she threw herself on the ceremonial fire!
