Detta är en väldigt enkel historia. Jag frestas att säga att den är allmän, men det är den inte. Få gör som jag gjorde. Men det jag gjorde kommer att bli vanligare i framtiden, har jag hört. Men det spelar mig mindre roll, för då kommer jag att vara borta sedan länge. Men historien är min, och den är enkel. Men inte lätt. Och den är allmängiltig, för den berör alla. För alla, utan undantag, måste göra den resa jag gjorde. Förr eller senare. Den kommer förmodligen att se annorlunda ut för dig, fast innehållet är detsamma. För innehållet är evigt och har aldrig ändrats. Min historia kan sammanfattas såhär: En människa förlorar allt och tappar lusten att leva. Men hennes känsla av ödesbestämmelse och hennes instinktiva rädsla för döden, får henne att hitta på ännu en väg ut. En sista väg, som hon desperat hoppas ska lyckas, där alla andra har misslyckats. Hon har slut på övertygelser om något bättre, men trotsar undergångstankarna och sätter allt på ett kort. Hon säger upp alla relationer och lämnar ifrån sig alla ägodelar och ger sig av som en pilgrim för att finna livet eller döden. Ska hon klara det? Ingen vet utom Gud. Jag reste till Norge för att leva, för jag inbillade mig i min vansinniga fantasi att något skulle hända som fick mig att uppfinna mig själv igen. Men istället togs det lilla jag hade kvar bort. Hoppet, det allra sista som man säger ska överge människan, försvann. This sentence stood out among the rest of the text I read this morning because of the word innocence within it. Innocence has been on my mind lately. It started when my Godson and his wife and daughter were visiting. I kept thinking, “Don’t scare the child or make her cry.” Then I asked myself, “What scares a child, and how do I not scare them? And innocence was the answer. Children are innocent, and anyone lacking innocence scares them. No matter who they are. And they don’t startle or cry just because they fear an attack; they are terrified of losing their innocence, as they see it in older children and grownups.
