Und es geht super fleißig weiter. Auf Grund unserer großen Ackerfläche haben wir eine smarte Lösung mit unseren Rändern gebraucht. Die Nordseite wird von einem Eichenwald begrenzt der für extreme Trockenheit sorgt die es nicht sinnvoll ermöglicht unsere Gemüsekulturen zu pflanzen. Jedoch ist es bei einer Nichtnutzung als Ackerfläche unausweichlich dass es irgendwann eine Umwidmung als Grünland unterliegt und das geht mit einem Wertverlust der Fläche einher. Somit haben wir uns überlegt welche Möglichkeiten wir haben unsere Randbereiche trotzdem sinnvoll zu nutzen und haben uns für den Anbau von Trockenkräutern entschieden. Die trotzen den vielen Sonnenstunden auch mit wenig Wasser 🌵🌵🌵 Ich bin schon sehr gespannt wie sich die entwickeln. The only part of our daily routine that is absolutely set in stone is this. Us all sitting in/on the bed cuddling and chatting and playing and waking up and checking the weather. And it's super sweet. Untouched. Undefiled. It doesn't matter if the sun will shine that day. If we went to bed late the previous night. Whether theres piles of dirty dishes waiting or not. P.S I'm really trying to focus on how positive this part of my day is. Writing this; our dog broke in to the vegetable garden a little while ago (trying to get in to the chicken coop) and demolished some of my newly planted babies and dug a few holes. How We manage our Morning Routine. We bought enough scoops for every bird stalls or grouping of birds, because we have birds at different ages, and in different structures. We named each location after a different Harry Potter location. We needed a series of names everyone would remember. We marked each scoop with a location and fill line. Our 11yr old fills each scoop with its type of feed to the fill line, while my husband works on waterers. Then the scoop go in a small Gorilla Cart and she goes around and refills on the feed. Every morning, every waterer gets thoroughly cleaned with a brush and refilled with clean fresh water and a splash of Apple Cider Vinegar. Happy Sunday! I’m trying to get into a new routine and am getting up at 5am to jump right into work and then taking the (very hot and humid) afternoon off to spend time with the kids. When it cools down a bit, in the late afternoon, I go back outside and work some more, usually until I can’t see because it’s so dark. I have been loving this routine- I get some quiet, kid/free time, then some time where I can really focus on the kids and my husband also gets some quality time with the kids in the evenings. It’s a divide and conquer technique. I am amazed at what we can get done without distractions and it makes for a more satisfying and productive day. One of the jobs this morning was weeding the kitchen garden. Some stuff didn’t make the cut and I replanted a couple beds. Then there was some of the endless landscaping (it feels like we live in a park) and cutting more flowers for drying. The perks of TB testing...🤔🤯 . What? You read that correctly, there are some perks to TB testing..?! . Bovine tuberculosis (TB) is a disease that is very common in the South West and devastates farming businesses throughout the country 🦠 . It’s a problem we’ve had on the farm for many years and it’s something we’ve had to build into the farm routine with TB testing every 60 days 💉🐄 . However, we also use this time to give them routine vaccinations, check their ear tags and record their weights 🐄 . Trying to make the most of a bad situation ✨ . The animals we tested today have come back clear of TB! This little hay cart helper, Lola Boo, has a new friend. We found this pup wandering the highway a week ago, the same day we took in Elvis and Dude. When it rains it pours they say 😬 She had no collar and no microchip when we found her. We are continuing to look for her people after putting up posters, knocking on doors around where we found her, posting on a couple community websites, and calling local shelters & vets to get her in their records. I am not quite sure what has happened to me since our move to the Farm, but for some odd reason I’ve been completely ignoring my planner & doing everything spur of the moment. That sounds like a good thing, but for someone like me who cannot be trusted with time (I chase shiny objects), it can lead to months of setbacks. I have A.D.D., so I had to learn the hard way that if I wanted to get anything done I’d have to stay on some form of schedule. Every. Single. Day. And this is why Organization is my intrinsic skill. It’s also why I’ve been so loyal to my planner through the years. For some reason I just haven’t be opening my daily pages which tells me it’s time to change things up again. So I’m working on a new Task List / Daily Routine that will work better on the Homestead, rather than focusing on the typical 9-5 / M-F Schedule that I’ve used for the last few decades! . It’s important to change things up as soon as you recognize it’s no longer working and experiment with systems until you feel aligned. Early morning breakfast studies: Emilio’s farm. Yesterday I watched as this little calf awkwardly rose onto it’s feet using all of it’s strength. Today I was hoping to capture that movement but she was already up and at ‘em by the time we got into the barn. I think there’s something in there about growth. Exponential growth.
