Taper tantrums are real One week until @comradesmarathon, many of my athletes enjoying the down time after months of hard work and time on legs but along with the rest comes the occasional “taper tantrum”. Ever felt cranky, stressed, or even gotten “phantom injuries” right before a big race? You’re not alone! What are Taper Tantrums? “A phenomenon exclusive to runners that occurs when a runner is tapering and has more pent up energy than she knows what to do with!” This is called the “taper tantrums” or “taper crazies.” Here’s why it happens: - Less Running, More Feelings: Without your usual mileage, your body misses the endorphins . This can lead to mood swings and irritability. - The Finish Line Looms: The race is close, and that can bring on anxiety. Did you train enough? What ifs start creeping in - Body in Flux: Resting can be good, but it can also make you hyper-aware of aches and pains you normally push through. It’s not all in your head, but it might not be a major injury either. So how do you deal? - Talk it Out: Acknowledge your feelings and share them with a friend, coach, or therapist. - Find New Outlets: Channel your energy into activities that relax you, like yoga, meditation, or spending time in nature. - Trust the Process: You’ve put in the work! Endlich nochmal Feuer frei auf der Straße beim 16. Illinger Citylauf. 😍🔥 Es war sehr anstrengend mich zu motivieren, da ich vorher noch gearbeitet habe und es ein wenig stressig war die letzten Tage. 😅 Aber ihr kennt mich ja, #alwaysonfire ist mein Motto. 🔥 Also schnell ein Power Nap von 20 Minuten, dann umziehen und los. Ich Vorfeld wusste ich, dass die Strecke nicht einfach ist und mit 4x2,5km mit 7 Wendepunkten und ca. 100hm nicht zu den Schnellsten gehört. 💪 Ziel war es also unter 40 Minuten zu laufen und letztendlich ist es sogar so super gelaufen, dass mir nur ein Paar Sekunden zur Bestzeit gefehlt haben. 🤣🔥 Platz 4 bei den Männer und 1. in der Altersklasse Ü30. 🏆🎉 Der Juni wird ein schneller Monat und auch der Start für die Berlin Marathon Vorbereitungen. Heute noch ein gemütliches Läufchen und die +60 Kilometer endlich wieder voll machen. 🙏 Gelaufen bin ich mit dem Endorphin Pro 4 von @saucony_eu 🧡 Direkt vom Karton in ein Race geschickt. At the 2024 Hoka Trilogy Run Asia Leg 2 - Manila, I am happy and grateful to have achieved a personal best time of 1 hour and 48 minutes in the half-marathon. This marks my second attempt to improve my performance in this distance since adopting Intermittent Fasting and Low Heart Rate Training. My previous record was 1 hour and 52 minutes, set at the first leg of the same race in Manila in December 2022. I chose to race with the Nike Vaporfly 2, which has proven to be my preferred racing shoes for 21KM. Shoutout specially to my friends at work who continue to embrace running as a way to have an active lifestyle. You guys are an inspiration to others. Secret City Sprint Triathlon 🏊♀️🚲🏃♂️ is one of my favorites. 500m 🏊♀️ 15 miles 🚲 5k 🏃♂️ This was my 4th year coming back with a best time of 1.27.41 5th Overall Female 🎉 1st AG (just me in my age ) 🚩Overslept 😴 Took a long nap of 2.1/2h after working the night before, but I made it on time 😁 (no speeding 🎟) 🚩 No swim 🏊♀️ warm up and started slow. 🏳Bike 🚲 was good even though I was a min slower from last year 🚩Lost time in T2 having trouble putting my running shoes. 😡 Took ones with no elastic shoes laces, and I couldn't slip them on fast 🏳And finally... ☆ 🌈 Brisbane Marathon Festival: 21.2km 🌈 × 😍 1hr 40mins: PB 🏃🏼♀️ AG: 14/244 × 🙌 Honestly, the high is real! I messaged coach on Friday: "What's a goal time for me? I said 2hrs before I started training with you... but that's a no-brainer. " He said I'm confident with a sub 1:45" Laughingly, I said: "You've got a lot of faith in my ability - my PB is 1hr 44mins!" 🥵 × 😂 He messaged post race and said, "Can I say, I told you so?" × 😈 I felt strong. The incline was a surprise. The weather turned it on. My arm ran into a bull bar - what bull bar? 10 000 competitors, and little old me had a blast representing @my_atlas_events 🖤 × 👸🏼 Gosh, I've missed racing. • Tri Sprint Tri! 🎉 This race was so much fun. The weather was great: cold enough outside to be shivering before the start but water temp just under the limit to make it wetsuit legal. This made for a dense fog over the lake that glowed beautifully in the rising sun. We swam ‘into’ the sun which made sighting a little difficult and made me glad I’d made the last-minute decision to switch from clear goggles to tinted. The swim was great! I had the incident from Chattanooga’s swim in the back of my mind but everyone was very polite despite the fact that we were swimming tightly together. It took until about halfway through the swim for me to find enough space to get some type of swim form and rhythm going. But overall I felt controlled, the view was beautiful, the water felt good, and soon enough the swim was over! The start of the bike course was interesting as we had to cross a small grassy slope with a ditch deep enough to necessitate picking our bikes up and hoisting them with us to the other side. A tiny bit of cyclocross! 😂 Mount line was soon after, though, and the rest of the course was fast with some small rollers. Two tight U-turns saw a number of people go down and I was glad when those turns were behind me. Bike leg felt smooth and strong. Best of all they closed the roads for the race! The run leg was a trail run through the park near the lake. Gravel and hard packed dirt, some small hills and plenty of roots, rocks, and twists. I couldn’t quite get the pace I wanted but I knew that was a possibility. It felt pretty good, though, and was just a lot of fun. 🥈Second in AG and 12th Female Congrats to everyone else racing this weekend! Brisbane 10km 🎉 1 hour 10 min pace Beautiful running weather and a great atmosphere with most events sold out made for an awesome morning with lots of friendly runners. My pacing partner Muhammad @ilhamramdlani98 was so nice to run with, we had lots of fun taking selfies and chatting to the other runners, we were stoked to see several of them stuck with us the whole way. It did get a bit tough in the full sun with a later start but it’s hard to top the scenery of this riverside course plus running over the Story Bridge is an incredible experience 👌🏼 Next stop Gold Coast Marathon in 5 weeks! Today we had Cycle Therapy Riders racing across the Pacific Northwest. A few of the kids crossed the border racing the Frazier National in Chilliwack Canada while some stayed home to race at SeaTac, as well as our mtb rider representing us at the Cascadia Cup in Olympia.
