A corneal cover-up… A gunderson flap is a surgical technique utilized to cover a non-healing or painful cornea that is otherwise a poor candidate for other surgical interventions. The procedure involves suturing a thin conjunctival flap over exposed corneal stroma. This vascularized tissue helps deliver the body’s natural immune cells and/or systemic medication to the otherwise immune isolated, avascular cornea. In this particular case, a non-healing fungal ulcer underwent a partial gunderson flap (picture 1) with dissolvable sutures. As the sutures dissolve, the flap regresses back with adherence of the conjunctival epithelium to the exposed stroma only (picture 2 and 4). Oral anti-fungal medicine supplemented the procedure in addition to her topical therapy. We have had excellent success utilizing this treatment in those non healing peripheral ulcers. Erneuter Einsatz für die SEG Rügen-Stralsund Am 20.05.2024 wurde unser SEG-Rettungsdienst zu einer Brandabsicherung nach Garz gerufen. Einsatz Nr. 3/24 Ort: Garz Einsatzgrund: Explosion mit Brandfolge Eingesetzte Mittel: · RTW: 1 Fahrzeug, 2 Besatzungsmitglieder · GW-Rett: 1 Fahrzeug, 3 Besatzungsmitglieder Details zum Einsatz: Auf einem Privatgrundstück in Garz kam es aus bisher unbekannter Ursache zu einer Explosion, gefolgt von einem Brand. Neben der Alarmierung der umliegenden Feuerwehren wurden auch drei Rettungswagen und ein Notarzt des DRK vor Ort eingesetzt. Nachdem die Erstversorgung abgeschlossen war, übernahmen die freiwilligen Mitglieder der Schnelleinsatzgruppe (SEG) die Einsatzstelle. Ihr Auftrag bestand in der Betreuung der kurzfristig evakuierten Personen und der Sicherstellung der medizinischen Versorgung von weiteren möglichen Verletzten. Insgesamt waren acht Freiwillige der SEG im Einsatz: · 4 Notfallsanitäter · 3 Rettungssanitäter · 1 Notarzt Zusätzlich war der Organisatorische Leiter Rettungsdienst (OrgL) im Dienst, um die Koordination vor Ort zu unterstützen. Am Wochenende fand ein Ausbildungstag für die Mitglieder unserer Schnelleinsatzgruppe Betreuung statt. Auf dem Gelände des Rot-Kreuz-Haus in Sonthofen wurden in drei Stationen die praktischen Fähigkeiten des Betreuungsdienstes wiederholt und vertieft. An der ersten Station stellten unsere ehrenamtlichen Einsatzkräfte gemeinsam ein Zelt auf und lernten, was es dabei zu beachten gibt. Des Weiteren wurde der Aufbau und Betrieb einer Verpflegungs- und Materialausgabe geübt, wie sie in einer Notunterkunft genutzt wird. An der dritten Station wiederholten die Bereitschaftsmitglieder, welche Formulare und Formularkarten es im Bereich des Betreuungsdienstes gibt, welchen Einsatzzweck sie haben und wie diese korrekt auszufüllen sind. A Distinguished Instructor in 2020, Dave Monk’s tour was interrupted by COVID. In 2024, he established the Dave Monk Tuition Assistance Fund to support SEG Student Members in their education on important trending topics such as the ones offered by DISC.
