Its been a while since I reintroduced myself, so I thought it might be good to share the story of how the Save Your Thyroid community was founded in 2019. At that time, I was suffering with a huge benign thyroid mass. I desperately needed relief (I was having extreme difficulty breathing and swallowing), but I was not a good surgical candidate. I had perfect thyroid function and did not want to take thyroid medication for the rest of my life. After doing hours of research and making many phone calls, I finally found a physician in another state who could treat me using Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) and help me save my thyroid. I was very excited to have this procedure, but anxious because I could not find but one patient testimonial online! But, through a miracle and the magic of social media, I was able to connect with another patient (a rarity at that time). She had undergone RFA with the same doctor and was able to address all my unanswered questions and anxieties! Ultimately, my procedure was a success and tremendously changed my life for the better! While the difficulties finding and accessing the procedure were great, I felt that I could not keep this information to myself; I knew more patients would need to know how they too could save their thyroid. Because of this, we co-founded the SYT community on Facebook. Anne’s nodule did respond to the treatment and shrank somewhat, but something was brewing beneath the surface. "Half of her thyroid was going below the collarbone, massively enlarged, going all the way down to the aorta. Im so thankful for my best friend & love for tagging along with me today! The procedure is called ethanol ablation for cystic nodules on the thyroid. If you have more solid, benign, nodules you can opt for the RFA which is heat ablation. You have to search for providers bc none in Oklahoma do either one of these procedures. You also won’t be told about them by your doctors unless you have a super caring and hopeful doctor. A stranger on TikTok told me about these procedures and introduced me to a “save your thyroid” group which she doesn’t run, she doesn’t get anything from all this, just a kind, helpful, stranger who enjoys helping and spreading helpful knowledge. The treatments have research to back their results. Some reversal of hashimotos and other thyroid symptoms have been reported! Everyone needs good nutrition but especially those with hypoparathyroidism and hypothyroidism. One thing he mentioned in this video is that dairy increases risk for female reproductive cancers. I’ve been searching for healthy options to get calcium from diet, so far I have been incorporating mineral water like Pellegrino (not sparkling spring water but MINERAL water) and greens like kale and collards. I also started incorporating Standard Process Calcium Lactate bc it is derived from food. But the elemental calcium in Calcium Lactate is only about 13 percent where calcium citrate is 20 percent so I have to take twice as much. For example, there is 84 mg elemental calcium in 400 mg Citrical petites 2 tablets. There is 33.8 mg elemental calcium in 259 mg calcium lactate. So less than half of what I get in Citrical. But Citrical has alot of garbage ingredients and is not food based. There is approximately 30 percent absorption of calcium from mineral water which is pretty high so 160 mg calcium in 1 bottle of Pellegrino so about 50 mg calcium from 1 bottle. Evolution of left toxic adenoma after RFA from initial ultrasound image to six months later. Since january 2021, this 60 years old lady was treated for toxic adenoma with significant clinic and hormonal toxicity. Due to its age, treatment with radioactive iodine could have been an elegant solution. But since its cosmetic score was 4, thermoablation seems to be a better solution because it allows both to cool the nodule and reduce its volume. In fact on the follow-up of 6 months post RFA the VRR will be 12% then 68% and 84% respectively at 1, 3 and 6 months with a significant improvement in the cosmetic score going from 4 to 2. Thyroid nodules are growths in the thyroid gland, which is located in the front of the neck. Most nodules are noncancerous (benign), but some can be cancerous. There are several types of thyroid nodules: * Colloid nodules are benign buildups or overgrowth of thyroid cells; these can be a single nodule, or multiple nodules. * Follicular adenomas (a benign encapsulated tumor) are also benign. * Thyroid cysts are balloon-like growths inside of your thyroid gland that are filled with fluid. They are almost never cancerous. * Hot nodules produce thyroid hormones. * Cold nodules are not making thyroid hormones. * Thyroid cancers can appear similar to any of the other types of thyroid nodules.
