SEDRA hosted a special Art Club at the 12th International Annual Research and Practice Conference & Exhibition on Autism. Paying homage to Autism Awareness, Youth of Determination went on a creative sensory journey of the 5 senses exploring the theme “I". Each participant created their unique artwork on their own individual puzzle piece, discussed how each person is different according to their likes, dislikes, abilities and sensory experiences but are all unified in that we all experience life with our 5 senses. SEDRA has collated all the puzzle pieces to create this collective artwork of the rainbow infinity symbol paying homage to the Autism Awareness logo illustrating the concept of “Unity in Diversity”. I had the incredible opportunity to conduct a workshop for classes 6-8 at Aadharshila Vidyapeeth School on World Autism Day. It was a day filled with learning, understanding, and empathy as we explored the topic of autism in depth. We began by discussing what autism is, shedding light on its characteristics and the diverse spectrum it encompasses. The students were eager to understand the nuances, which led us to explore the various causes and factors that affect autistic individuals. A significant focus of the workshop was on the importance of empathy and kindness. We talked about how crucial it is to show compassion and understanding towards everyone, especially those who may experience the world differently. Another key aspect we discussed was the importance of inclusion. We emphasized how creating a supportive and accepting community can make a world of difference for autistic individuals. Inclusion isn’t just about integrating people into existing structures; it’s about reshaping those structures to accommodate and celebrate everyone’s differences. To visually represent our commitment and solidarity, we engaged in a special activity. Since blue is the representative color for autism awareness, we created a vibrant display where students placed their blue-colored fingerprints and handprints on a large board. This activity symbolized unity, support, and the unique mark each individual brings to our community. The enthusiasm and curiosity shown by these young minds were truly heartwarming. It was inspiring to see their eagerness to learn, their compassionate responses, and their commitment to fostering a more inclusive environment. 🌈 Let’s continue to nurture an environment where everyone feels valued, understood, and included. Η ημερίδα έλαβε χώρα δια ζώσης στην Αθήνα, προσφέροντας στους συμμετέχοντες την ευκαιρία να παρακολουθήσουν από κοντά τις παρουσιάσεις και τις συζητήσεις των ειδικών. Παράλληλα, για τους συναδέλφους μας που βρίσκονται στην περιφέρεια, υπήρξε η δυνατότητα παρακολούθησης της ημερίδας διαδικτυακά. Η ημερίδα αποτέλεσε μια εξαιρετική ευκαιρία για ενημέρωση και ανταλλαγή απόψεων μεταξύ των συμμετεχόντων, ενισχύοντας την κοινότητα που εργάζεται προς την κατεύθυνση βελτίωσης της ποιότητας ζωής των ατόμων που βρίσκονται στο φάσμα του αυτισμού. As part of World Autism Awareness Day 🌍, Goldair Handling and Alma Association organized a seminar for our colleagues focusing on autism. The seminar took place in person in Athens, providing participants with the opportunity to attend presentations and discussions by experts up close. At the same time, colleagues in the regional airports of Greece had the chance to attend the seminar online. Worldmark Gurugram celebrates diversity and inclusion with Pure Hearts - Sapno ki Udaan 2024 Held on Saturday, April 27th, at Worldmark Gurugram, our 7-acre mixed-use development, this heartwarming initiative aimed at elevating awareness and acceptance of autism in collaboration with Pure Hearts, a children's initiative fostering social change. The evening was a resounding success, featuring soul-stirring music, captivating dance performances, and exceptional talents from individuals on the autism spectrum. Esteemed artists, schools like Kazipur Govt School, The Shri Ram Schools, Kunskappskolan Gurgaon, Scottish High International, and non-profits including Neev Learning Centre and Bagiya - Sanshil Foundation, actively participated. Their involvement fostered a deeper understanding and acceptance of autism within our community. We were honored and grateful to have Mr. Ranveer Singh Saini, India's first Gold medalist in Golf at the Special Olympics World Games, as our guest speaker. Here's one beneficial way to thrive in the workplace as a young professional on the autism spectrum. 💁🏻♀️ Get workplace support through feedback You can grow in your field through regular feedback from your employer. Then you can get a sense of what is going well, what expectations are being met, and what needs adjusting or improving. You can actively solicit feedback from your employer so you both can identify areas for improvement and also ensure that your needs are being met effectively. It’s important to have regular check-ins, whether it's performance evaluations or opportunities for informal feedback, to help you work in a positive environment that feels inclusive. When you receive feedback, you can let your employer know that it’s most helpful when that feedback is more direct and concrete. For example, if your employer recommends you to be a little more engaged with coworkers, then ask them to provide tangible examples. Such as... What does that look like? What does that look like during work tasks? Does it look like checking up on people to see where they are? What are you asking for and how can I implement that? Here are some pros and cons with getting support from your campus's career services center as a neurodiverse college student ⤵️ Your college's career services center is a helpful resource to help you transition from higher ed to the professional workplace. Usually, they provide workshops in resume building, honing interview skills, and helping you identify your strengths and skills for the professional workplace. They also generally provide 1:1 career counseling sessions. 🏫 While many universities have career services centers, something to consider is the fact that career counseling services may be geared towards neurotypical people. For example, you may not find some of the recommendations fit your neurodiverse needs. Such as, your issue might not necessarily be test anxiety ⛔️ but more around planning your approach or getting organized. That means career service centers might not be fully equipped for individuals on the spectrum. So, what to do in this case? There are other non-traditional career supports that you can look into. English text below: استضافت سدرة جلسة خاصة بنادي الفنون على هامش المؤتمر والمعرض الدولي السنوي الثاني عشر للأبحاث والممارسات حول التوحد. وبهدف تعزيز فعاليات التوعية بالتوحد، انطلق أصحاب الهمم في رحلة إبداعية مثيرة للحواس الخمس لاستكشاف موضوع "أنا". ابتكر كل مشارك أعماله الفنية الفريدة على قطعة اللغز الفردية الخاصة به، وناقش كيف يختلف كل شخص وفقًا لما يحبه ويكرهه وبالنسبة إلى قدراته وتجاربه الحسية، بيد أننا جميعًا متحدون في الوقت نفسه من حيث كوننا جميعًا نجرب الحياة بحواسنا الخمس. قامت سدرة بتجميع كل قطع الأحجية في شكل هذا العمل الفني الجماعي لرمز قوس قزح اللانهائي تكريمًا لشعار التوعية بالتوحد والذي يسلط الضوء على مفهوم "الوحدة في التنوع". نأمل أن نستمر في رفع مستوى الوعي حول التنوع العصبي بينما نواصل عملنا المشترك على بناء مجتمع متناغم ودامج. SEDRA hosted a special Art Club at the 12th International Annual Research and Practice Conference & Exhibition on Autism. Paying homage to Autism Awareness, Youth of Determination went on a creative sensory journey of the 5 senses exploring the theme “I". Each participant created their unique artwork on their own individual puzzle piece, discussed how each person is different according to their likes, dislikes, abilities and sensory experiences but are all unified in that we all experience life with our 5 senses. SEDRA has collated all the puzzle pieces to create this collective artwork of the rainbow infinity symbol paying homage to the Autism Awareness logo illustrating the concept of “Unity in Diversity”. An invaluable resource for college students on the autism spectrum, is getting peer support to walk through the process from college to the workplace. Besides a career prep program, you can consider is getting peer support 👥 Getting connected with a peer who has walked through the process already, and can walk you through the transition is an invaluable resource. 👣 It’s helpful to learn from a peer when you’re stepping into these new spaces like going for a job that we might feel really intimidated by. For instance, at University of Delaware, they have spectrum scholars where there's peer support. At this university, they provide programs that are more supportive to people with autism who might need peer support and other programs to make college feel more accessible. Within a peer support group, you can also get invaluable advice from peers who have already been through or are going through the transition from college to the workplace. 💌 Forward this post to anyone who could benefit from our content.
