Touch Up After several years out in the elements the top edge of my backyard mural panels along the back fence started to peel, so yesterday I sanded and primed the top edge and today I painted a base coat over the gesso. I was planning to add more layers, and feather it back in so it would blend in better with the original painting, but the wind kicked up quickly and I couldn’t hold the bubble wrap, brush and palette to keep working so the rest, including several layers of polyurethane, will have to wait for a calmer day. I’m amazed at how well it has held up through the seasons and looks so good especially in the summer when the plants grow up in front of it. This was a big experiment that really paid off. #backyardmural

She took a photo of all of them together at the beach and had a 7’T x 12’L life-size banner of it printed on billboard material 8 years ago, but it had faded to just some remaining black ink. Before and After . This backyard mural was originally painted in 2005 and this project was given to me from a sweet lady who was looking for an artist to refresh her original artwork. After visiting the mural in person and observing the Arizona sun damage the painting had, I knew I could bring it back to life. It was an exciting challenge to mix and match the colors by hand. Layer by layer, color by color watching this slowly, but surely blossom was a delight. The pure joy I received from her reaction by just repainting the sand was beautiful. She told me that she started to open her blinds again, and that she was enjoying her backyard again. Once the sky and plants were matched and painted it was a whole different vibe. It really brightened her backyard. She loved it so much that she sent me a photo of it at night with spot lights on it.
