White Whale by @masquemilano , a perfume I have been completely obsessed with since I realized how much it reminded me of Home (San Francisco). I grew up in the City on prime oceanfront property, right on Ocean Beach. The climate is definitely changing. It’s often sunny there now, but when I was growing up every day was chilly, gray and foggy. We played in enormous sand dunes surrounded by the salty air of the cold, treacherous pacific ocean. Over the years, I had the pleasure (aside from being extremely seasick 🤢) of taking a couple whale watching excursions to the Farallon Islands. During one trip with my dad our boat was encircled by whales. I recall seeing tails all around us, the occasional spray from a blow hole, and observing the slippery skin of their backs, glistening with water as they quietly slid back into the sparkling, silvery ocean waters. I remember that the water surrounding the Farallon islands was crystal clear. White Whale smells like cold, salty sea air and old weathered driftwood. It smells white to me. I pick up a lot of bitter frankincense, salt, gray orris, a crystalline aquatic note, and I suppose some ambergris, as there is a subtle animalic component that makes this fragrance so real for me. It’s androgynous and lasts the whole day with one strong spray. This perfume truly has a special place in my heart, just like San Francisco.
