Today a beautiful album of Van Morrison. Avalon Sunset is the nineteenth studio album by Northern Irish singer-songwriter Van Morrison. It was released in 1989 by Mercury Records to both commercial and critical success. In 2008, Avalon Sunset was reissued and remastered, featuring an alternate take of “Whenever God Shines His Light”, and a version of “When the Saints Go Marching In” with additional lyrics by Morrison. This album was recorded in England at Woodhall Studio, Eden Studios, Olympic Studios, Westside Studio, and Townhouse Studios. It marked the first appearance of Georgie Fame with Morrison. Fame played the Hammond organ and also provided backup vocals and helped direct the band. The all new songs were rehearsed in two days and then recorded in another two days. Arty McGlynn (the guitarist) remarked about the band’s feelings when the sessions ended “we still don’t know if it’s an album, or maybe a demo for an album.” Morrison’s reliance on spontaneity was evident on “Daring Night” where he can be heard calling out chord changes “one-four, one-four” (Gmaj to Cmaj) to Roy Jones near the song’s ending. Nie jest chyba przypadkiem, że w pamięć zapadły mi właśnie takie obrazki - oprócz "Inner Self" także "Blessed are the Sick" Morbid Angel i "Until It Sleeps" Metalliki. To była przez długi czas "moja muzyka". A do thrashu z Ameryki Południowej miałem szczególną słabość. Przede wszystkim dlatego, że wyróżniał się on wyraźniejszą koncentracją na rytmie, który nie tylko wchodził w głębszą relację z riffem, ale sam w sobie był jakiś... inny, egzotyczny. W ojczyźnie samby takie rzeczy chyba ma się we krwi. Dave Lombardo wielokrotnie opowiadał o tym jak ćwiczył do nagrań z muzyką latynoamerykańską i później przemycał niektóre rytmiczne patenty do Slayera. Tak, Slayer opierał wybrane numery na beatach z nagrań kubańskich kwintetów wykonujących muzykę taneczną! W przypadku Sepultury rzecz ma się podobnie. Tutaj oprócz klasycznego łomotu na 4/4 jest swing i rytmiczne modulacje, które sprawiają, że pogujący jegomoście wpadają w taneczne koleiny, nawet nie zdając sobie sprawy, że oto wycinają niezdrowo przyspieszoną sambę. Słuchając "Beneath the Remains" i "Arise", na której to płycie koalicja muzyki tanecznej i wysokooktanowego thrashu jest jeszcze silniejsza, śmiałem się jak po usłyszeniu wybitnie zabawnego dowcipu, każdorazowo gdy Igor Cavalera bez zapowiedzi "rozluźniał" rytmiczną strukturę utworu. Zresztą, podobnie reaguję i dzisiaj. Chociaż znam te płyty na pamięć i obcowaniu z nimi nie towarzyszy już element zaskoczenia, to jednak wciąż zachwyca mnie nieszablonowość tej muzyki. Sepultura prezentuje wszystko to, co ubrane w katany obszyte emblematami ulubionych zespołów tygryski lubią najbardziej - riffy jak serie z karabinu maszynowego, tempa sprinterskie, solówki grane z precyzją japońskiego zegarmistrza - ale w bonusie inkorporuje do tego podstawowego pakietu odpowiednio zmodyfikowane muzyczne elementy charakterystyczne dla karnawałowej fiesty rodem z Rio de Janeiro. To co? Zatańczymy? 🕺💃

Nie znoszę zespołów w rodzaju Grety van Fleet, budujących swoją tożsamość w oparciu o przesadne podobieństwo do innych wykonawców. Wzdrygam się przed imitacjami i cover bandami, które deklarują, że tworzą autorską muzykę. A jednocześnie tupię nóżką do Kazika na Żywo budzącego automatyczne skojarzenia z Rage Against the Machine, jakby na chwilę zapominając o istnieniu pierwowzoru. "Inspiracja" grupą Toma Morello w przypadku KNŻ jest bezwstydna. Dlaczego więc nie kpię, nie wytykam palcami i łamię zasady, których przestrzegać zobowiązywałem się sam przed sobą? Bo Kazik na Żywo to jest takie "Rage Against the Machine po roku w Polsce". Ta kalka jest niedokładna, koślawa, odbita pijacką kreską. "Gen polskości", który przebija z numerów muzycznie ewidentnie robionych "na zajawce" RATM, powoduje, że mimo wszystko jest w tym coś więcej niż imitacja. A może próbuję w ten sposób przekonać siebie samego, bo nie chcę się przyznać do bycia hipokrytą? Jest możliwe! W każdym razie, nawet jeśli przyjmiemy, że Litza i Kazik to kopiści, to portretują oni "Damę z łasiczką" (albo z gronostajem, jak wolicie) bardziej jak Jaś Fasola niż Giampetrino. Ten set się buja, "gruwi", jednak nie ma szans by ktokolwiek pomyślał, że materiał powstał "na zachodzie". KNŻ jest polski tak jak skarpety do sandałów i reklamówka z Biedronki. Na "Porozumieniu... " są momenty, i to takie, że trzeba przytrzymać czapkę, żeby jej nam nie zwiało. Litza, co by nie mówić, nie tylko dla Arki Noego potrafił tworzyć bangery. Tam u niego pod palcami czasami iskrzy, a jak już iskrzy, to trzeba podskakiwać wysoko, żeby sobie stóp nie poparzyć. O, na przykład w linkowanym "Co się z tobą stanie...". Zresztą włącz i sam się przekonaj. Tylko potem nie narzekaj na zakwasy, bo wyraźnie ostrzegałem.

Fool for a Lifetime (1995) ◾️ Genre: Alternative Metal ◾️ Key track: I don't know, love them all (except "Take This Bottle" 🤭) Prawie zapomniałem jak bardzo uwielbiam tę płytę! A o takich rzeczach zapominać nie wolno. Byłem zresztą przekonany, że już wrzucałem Faith No More, dlatego przeskrolowałem kilkukrotnie swoją tablicę i okazuję się, że jednak potrafię zachować wstrzemięźliwość. Bo jak inaczej nazwać tak długie powstrzymywanie się przed publikacją płyty jednego z twoich absolutnie ulubionych zespołów? W kwestii hierarchii ważności albumów Faith No More, rzecz ma się w moim przypadku następująco: na pierwszym miejscu od pierwszego usłyszenia dozgonnie znajduje się "The Real Thing" (no chyba, że coś ciężkiego kiedyś spadnie mi na głowę i od pomieszania zmysłów odbiorę ów honorowy tytuł tej absolutnie fantastycznej płycie), na drugim "King's for a Day..." i dopiero na trzecim "Angel Dust". Przy czym - co warto wyjaśnić, zanim zaczną rozpisywać się o tym media - uwielbiam je wszystkie. Przede wszystkim, Mike Patton jest jednym z moich ulubionych wariatów. Gość potrafi robić z głosem rzeczy nieludzkie. Wiedzieliście np. że chore wycie, szczekanie i warkot potworów z filmu "Jestem Legendą" to wcale nie "efekty komputerowe", tylko " typowy Mike" na robocie? Klękam niemal przed każdym projektem Pattona, a jest ich kilka: Mr.Bungle, Fantômas, Tomahawk, Peeping Tom, Dead Cross. Przekrój gatunków i stylistyk - od śpiewania ślicznych melodii, po dziki scream i wrzaski. Faith No More pozostaje jednak bezwzględnie moim ulubionym zespołem z Mikem przy mikrofonie. "King's for a Day..." skupia wszystko, co kocham u tych łobuzów - są tutaj absolutnie obezwładniające melodie, refreny inkrustowane szczerym złotem, są niespotykane erupcje energii i wycieczki w stronę metalowego łomotu, jest odrobina funku i zgrywy, a wszystko to brzmi tak, że lepiej się nie da. Choćby i stu inżynierów dźwięku, producentów i innych tęgich głów zastanawiało się "jak można to jeszcze ulepszyć", zawsze dojdą do tego samego wniosku: nie da się, to już jest perfekcyjne. P.S. ewentualnie wyrzucić "Take This Bottle" 🤭
