In addition to raising thousands of bees, it produces honey under the names Honey Bee Zen and @swanvalleyhoney.ca, and supplies it to about 40 stores. “There’s probably no place where we haven’t got honey in some form or another in the Kootenays,” says Goodman Lee’s husband and partner Jeff Lee. There’s also beeswax candles and lip balms, beekeeping courses and honey judging, providing pollination units to Creston Valley orchards, and more. In other words, the apiary has lots going on. 🚀“It’s impossible to learn everything at once,” says Goodman Lee, “And as your business grows and grows and grows, it’s always changing.” Recently, participating in a free learning series through the Trust's Basin Business Advisors program has enabled her to expand her skills. 🔗Read the full story by clicking the Columbia Basin link in our profile." #OurTrust #ColumbiaBasin #BasinBusinessAdvisors #Creston #CrestonValley #feedthebees

Ginger: a flavorful root renowned for its remarkable health benefits! Consuming ginger can alleviate issues such as fermentation, constipation, bloating, nausea and intestinal gas. Its anti-oxidative properties combat the wear and tear on cells by managing free radicals, known for their potential harm when present in excess. Commonly incorporated fresh or dried in culinary dishes or herbal teas, ginger is also consumed in supplement form due to its perceived health-enhancing properties. Derived from the Zingiber officinale plant, ginger root has been a staple in Chinese and Indian medicinal practices for centuries. Ginger is also believed to possess nutrients that could assist in the prevention and treatment of conditions such as arthritis, inflammation, and various infections. Additionally, ginger may play a role in reducing the risk of diabetes, cancer, and other health-related ailments. Adding ginger to your regular diet is easy! Steep some fresh slices in boiling water for a nourishing hot drink, or chop finely and add to a stirfry with your favourite vegetables. We have it available in powder and supplement form - you pick! #infinityofficeandhealth #discovervibrantvalemount #visitvalemountbc #columbiaBasin #localfood #localmeat #buylocal #lovevalemountbc #wildwednesday

🦪 It's Invasive Species Action month! 💦 We're proud to be a partner of the BC Invasive Mussel Defense Program which works to protect BC waterways through early detection, monitoring and public outreach. ⚓ Inspection stations are open from April until October to prevent zebra and quagga mussels from hitching a ride on boats or other watercraft and entering BC waterways. Inspectors at these stations promote BC’s directive that everyone follow the “Clean, Drain, Dry” guidance, preventative steps every boater is expected to practice when moving between lakes, rivers and other water bodies. Inspectors will also be checking watercraft for compliance with the chief veterinarian’s pull the plug order. 🔗 Protecting waterways from the threat of invasive species like quagga mussels is not just an environmental imperative, it’s critical to safeguarding the economy and well-being of communities throughout the Columbia Basin. #invasivespecies #invasivespeciesaction #invasivemussels #columbiariver #OurTrust #ColumbiaBasin

Film opportunity! Do you work in or care for the forests in Southern Alberta or BC? Are you a forester, ecologist, park warden, conservationist, logger, industry professional, tree planter, parks employee, administrator, volunteer, knowledge keeper or activist? Calgary artist duo Mia + Eric are looking for forest caretakers from Southern Alberta and BC to participate in the filming of In a Strange Place—a video artwork that addresses the future of the forests. Participants will perform short improvised movements that reflect their role in forestry or forest care work. No skill required. These performances will be played alongside 120 other forest caretakers from Germany, Norway, and England. The final artwork will be exhibited at Contemporary Calgary in November 2024. Filming will take place August 1-4 in Creston, BC and the south Kootenays. You can sign up for the project and get more info by emailing [email protected] About the project: In a Strange Place is about the future of our forests and the people who care for them. Climate change will pose many challenges for forests and the non-human creatures who need them for their survival. The future of our woods depends on what we all — but especially forest workers (foresters, ecologists, park wardens, conservationists, loggers, industry professionals, tree planters, parks employees, administrators, volunteers, knowledge keepers and activists) — do to protect them, including educating the public. Based on an understanding of forest workers as “caretakers,” In a Strange Place asks these workers to perform visual and emotional gestures that are an abstract reflection of their care work in the forest. About Mia + Eric: We are Mia Rushton and Eric Moschopedis, an interdisciplinary artist team from Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Since 2008 we have been creating interdisciplinary exhibitions, temporary public art, participatory works, and interventions under the moniker, Mia + Eric. We bring together elements of craft, performance, cultural geography, and multi-species ethnography to create site-specific and socially-engaged works.
