Josef Suwelack, ein Münsterländer Flugpionier, nach dem u.a. eine Straße in Gremmendorf benannt und der am Anfang des des vorigen Jahrhunderts erste Flugversuche auf der Loddenheide machte, wurde unter tragischen Umständen 1915 von einem Briten im französischen Erqingham sur Lys in den Rücken geschossen uns starb mit nur 27 Jahren. Eine kleine Delegation aus Erqingham besuchte nun sein Denkmal, eine Bronze des Münsteraner Designers Christoph Sandkötter, der diese vor seinem Elternhaus in Billerbeck aufgestellt hat. Initiator der Aktionen ist Wolfgang Suwelack, Neffe des Flugpioniers, der das Gedenken an seinen Onkel, den genialen Konstrukteur und Aviator aufrecht erhalten will. Auch Erqingham sur Lys hat, wie Gremmendorf eine Straße nach Josef Suwelack benannt. Auf der Loddenheide flog Suwelack u.a. mit anderen todesmutigen Pionieren der Luftfahrt, wie Anton Knubel, der dort auch seine erste „Flugzeugbauanstalt“ betrieb. Der Besuch hat einen weiteren Hintergrund: Jack Thorpe, Chef der französischen Delegation hat in Erqingham ein Dudelsack-Orchester gegründet, das regelmäßig zu Friedenskonzerten aufspielt. Am 8. Mai, zum Ende des 2. Weltkrieges spielte sein Orchester dann auch am Billerbecker Mahnmal und legte nach französischer Tradition Mohnblumenkreuze nieder. Jack Thorpe und Wolfgang Suwelack verbindet das Engagement gegen Krieg und Gewaltherrschaft in einer deutsch-französisch-britischen Freundschaft. 🪨🎉 30 Jahre „Stein der Freundschaft“ in New Melle/USA 🪨🎉 Die Städtepartnerschaft zwischen dem niedersächsischen Melle und New Melle im US-Bundesstaat Missouri hat im Laufe der Zeit interessante Projekte hervorgebracht: Beispielsweise den „Stein der Freundschaft“ und das Einwanderer-Denkmal in der amerikanischen Schwestergemeinde oder auch den New-Melle-Platz in Melle-Mitte und den Amerika-Hain in Buer. 🇩🇪 🇺🇸 Die 30-Jahr-Feier des „Steins der Freundschaft“ nahm jetzt eine fünfköpfige Delegation aus der Stadt Melle, bestehend aus Bürgermeisterin Jutta Dettmann, dem stellvertretenden Vorsitzenden des Deutsch-Amerikanischen Freundeskreises Melle, Jürgen Krämer, den Freundeskreismitgliedern Bärbel Thoms und Angelika Weitkamp sowie der Redakteurin Ina Wemhöner vom „Meller Kreisblatt“, zum Anlass, der 500-Seelen-Ortschaft in der „Plattdeutschen Prärie“ einen Besuch abzustatten. Dr. Samuel Titus, pastor in charge of St. Paul's Church and session moderator, along with his team, to Iqra University Chak Shahzad Campus. The Chair also emphasized the importance of public-private partnerships in advancing these sectors.
