@thetea.pl 2023 Pinglin Natural Garden Oriental Beauty Oolong this afternoon. It’s been very gloomy and the storms have been wild so this is hitting in all the right ways. It’s very comforting and just a really nice oolong overall. It’s rich with a honeyed sweetness, light fruity notes, and it tastes the way dried dead leaves smell in the fall. Or at least that’s my best descriptor on it. Really lovely and I’m exciting to dive into the other oolongs I had ordered a while back. One is going to be *very* special so stay tuned for that.

Zwłaszcza, jeśli (tak jak ja) ma się słabość do porcelany i wszystkich innych „skorup”, jak nazywa je @herbaciarium ☕️ 🫖 🍵 Jingdezhen - „kolebka chińskiej porcelany” - pozostaje dla mnie największym zaskoczeniem tego wyjazdu. I największym 遗憾 - żalem, że nie mogłam spędzić tam więcej czasu. Bo oprócz wylewającej się zewsząd (dosłownie i w przenośni) porcelany, wspaniałych muzeów i ciekawych zakątków, to miejsce miało w sobie coś, co pozwalało zwolnić i odetchnąć mimo i tak sporej ilości turystów. Niesamowicie przyjaźni ludzie, małe sklepiki, urocze kafejki, wąskie uliczki z rzemieślniczymi pracowniami, ciekawe jedzenie i otaczające nas zewsząd rękodzieło. Czas jakby tam zwalniał. I nawet deszcz nie był w stanie zepsuć nam humorów. A może wręcz dopełniał tego doświadczenia? Ja wrócę na pewno. A i wam polecam z całego serca - przeznaczcie na Jingdezhen spokojne trzy dni. Continuing to price, label, and input the inventory into the POS for the big weekend at Anime North. @secretteatime will have a table in Hall D Guest Area. I will also be hosting 7 workshops in 2.5 days. (I will be resting and MIA for most of next week. 😂 Having tea to keep me going (it's a mystery tea from the @torontoteafestival taster box), but made a small realization that my new ceramic pieces work well with my old wares. The gaiwan was made in March this year and the cup was from 5+ years ago. Different in style, but play well with each other. I guess being a tea person before a potter makes me prioritize having a wide range of seasonal vocabulary in teawares to express with rather than a personal "identifiable style". Admittedly it was (and still sometimes) bothering me that my "style" seems to be scattered over my ceramics career, but overtime I am accepting that my identity as a tea practitioner is the reason why I got into pottery, so of course my making is informed by ideas of tea. Particularly Japanese tea and the aesthetic of arranging non-matching and contrasting elements together to elevate each items' individually, but in harmony with each other. The new work is a lot more colourful than my work for the last 10 years, but if I had to look at my creative practice from a long landscape view (including the early days of childhood and as a student), I was actually pretty colourful in my sculptures, paintings, drawings, jewellery, and textile work. So this in many ways is returning to something I once had in my creative vocab. No worries to those who like my more neutral colour work. El día de ayer fue el día internacional del té, con el objetivo visibilizar el trabajo de miles de personas para que el té llegue a todo el mundo. Como entusiasta, estoy muy agradecido de que podamos conocer en Chile, en el fin del mundo a esta maravillosa infusión milenaria. Ha habido importantes hitos en mi historia personal con el té. Desde pequeño, en casa de mis abuelos, y como muchos otros amantes del té en Chile, el té siempre acompañaba nuestras reuniones familiares a la hora de la "once". Como cualquier niño curioso, no tardé en descubrir qué había dentro de una bolsita de té o infusión. Con el tiempo, quise saber cuáles eran las hierbas que se usaban en cada una. El té, sin embargo, tenía algo especial en su sabor y aspecto. Algo que siempre me llamó la atención fue la Camellia Sinensis, la planta de la que proviene. Admiraba cómo el té se combinaba tan bien con diferentes sabores y por mucho tiempo pensé que la mayor expresión de su calidad y versatilidad era su capacidad de llevarse bien con diversos ingredientes. Hace unos 12 años, comencé a beber té en hoja. Mi curiosidad no terminó allí; descubrir que existen otras categorías además del té negro y verde me abrió aún más los ojos, el olfato y el gusto. En 2020, durante los primeros meses de la pandemia de Covid-19, mi esposa y yo buscamos actividades para manejar nuestra ansiedad. Ella eligió tejer y yo elegí beber té y crear una cuenta de Instagram para aprender y compartir con otros aficionados. Fue una excelente decisión, porque desde entonces he aprendido que el mundo del té es enorme y lleno de posibilidades. La curiosidad no ha sido mi única motivación. Kocham to miejsce i czuję ogromną wdzięczność, że po pięciu latach mogłam do niego wrócić 🥹 To tu, w pewnej pracowni herbacianej w Chengdu, w 2018 rozpoczęłam roczny kurs ceremonii herbacianej - wspaniałą przygodę i ogromne wyzwanie (absolutnie wszystko po chińsku, czasami bywało zabawnie 😅), które zaowocowało mnóstwem wspomnień i przyjaźniami, które trwają do dziś. Powoli porządkuję zdjęcia, wybieram te ulubione. Z naciskiem na „powoli” - bo przecież chciałabym, żeby wspomnień starczyło aż do następnej podróży 💚 Jest coś w tym, że oczy ludzi, którzy opowiadają o swojej pasji, lśnią, skrzą, błyszczą się. Nie widać tu moich, ale możecie wierzyć, że były w nich iskierki ✨ Zwłaszcza, że w gaiwanie był mój ukochany 正山小种(Lapsang Souchong). I've got back into the habit of using my porcelain gaiwan for a daily brew of Charlie Xu's delicious Anji Bai Cha green tea. I like the meditative quality of preparing tea in this way. Water temperature 70 - 80 degrees (never boiling for green tea) to bring out its best flavour. Time to reflect ... Today, five years ago (almost to the minute), my train from Shanghai Hongqiao station rolled into Wuhu station, a few hours away in Anhui province. I was dropped off at Jinjiang Inn at the top of Food Street by my painting teacher and her husband. Teacher Wang returned later to take me out for supper with her daughter. Meanwhile I showered and changed, and took this selfie (2nd photo). The relief to have made it there, and the feeling of triumph, are visible on my face. It's a photo I look at from time to time to remind myself I CAN succeed. This photo's almost become a talisman. Five days of intensive Chinese brush painting lessons with Teacher Wang in her home were to follow after my arrival in Wuhu. On our trip on monday we also visited Juveninkoski rapids. There are not many free falling waterfalls in central Finland, it was so beautiful with the kingcups blooming everywhere🌼 Lovely place to stroll around and have some tea🫖 I had @moychay.nl Georgian Red Tea in my gaiwan. It's a lovely earthy and woody tea. I love the characteristic red currant flavour in Georgian teas! It's sweet and a tiny bit sour at the same time.It reminds me of my childhood, when we used to have homemade red currant juice❤️ The tea soup is cloudy, which is an interesting feature, I don't think I've seen such a cloudy tea before. These maocha bricks from @white2tea really do it for me. This one is the last of the set and it’s the 2023 Yulan Maocha dancong brick. I could drink these every day and never get tired of them. They are so reliably delicious and great hot or cold brewed. The roast is very light and it almost gives me a chocolatey aroma, but that’s definitely not found in the palate. This tea is has syrupy/silky/creamy texture that’s just lovely. It tastes light and refreshing with notes of sweet lemon, rich wildflower honey, and a bouquet of florals and fruity notes. It borderline has a peach syrup note on the backend with that honey coming back around. Fantastic tea 👏🏼

Mom’s Celebration of Life was great! Relatives were snubbed, tea was drank, and positive vibes were conjured. It really was the perfect venue. 5 mins from our old address, one of our original cleaning business contracts: the Cambridge Legion in which we spent many nights cleaning, and 10 mins from the hospice in which she passed away.
